When we think of Shrek, it’s impossible not to imagine his Scottish accent. But did you know this wasn’t the original plan?
Originally, Mike Myers recorded all of Shrek’s lines with his natural Canadian accent. However, after the film was nearly finished, Myers felt the character needed more personality. He asked to re-record everything — this time with a Scottish accent.
The decision was expensive (costing the studio millions), but it gave Shrek the unforgettable charm that made him one of the most iconic animated characters ever.
